Let me start by saying, “Everything that has ever been invented or happened started as an Idea.” .
Narinder Sharma
#1 Dream:
What are you passionate about? What is one thing you care about and wants to make a change? What is your big idea? What is your Eureka?
“Some men see things as they are and ask why. Others dream things that never were and ask why not.” ― George Bernard Shaw.
#2 Believe:
Believe in your dream, then take it to the war room, brainstorm and try to tear it down. Avoid negativity, listen intently, be open to criticism, and remain curious about suggestions. Finally, learn from the collective wisdom to adjust and improvise your idea. Don’t attach yourself to a tool, path, or solution; always look for opportunities to learn and adapt.
“Ever tried? Ever failed? No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.”
Samuel Beckett
#3 Plan, work and achieve:
While having a dream and believing in your dream is a good starting point and a great motivation, it’s just a start.
It is this part of the process that turns a dream into reality. You now need to supplement your vision with a strategy at this stage.
So how do you eat an elephant? One spoon at a time.
Let’s break down the stage further:
What is the vision?:
A high-level direction and expected value?
Where are we now?:
A fair assessment of the current state.
Where do we want to be?:
Identify the gap between the current and the desired state, and set the target state for the next milestone.
How do we get there?:
Plan, approach, steps, and breakdown of activities that will take us there.
Take action(s):
As they say, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a step”; it is time to hit the road and start implementing & executing the plan.
Did we get there?:
Check and assess our progress to remain on the course, identify any deviation from the trajectory and readjust.
Keep the momentum going:
Loop through the steps as often as needed to achieve your next goal post.
Finally, let me finish with this great quote from the ex-president of India.
“A dream is not something you see while sleeping; it does not let you sleep.”
Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam
